Principal's Messages

Let’s embrace challenges! Let’s turn a new page!

As the global pandemic situation remains severe, we are really thankful we still managed to start the new academic year smoothly! In the past eleven months, I had temporarily left the School for another post in the Education Bureau, working on the training programmes for teachers and principals. Meanwhile, I kept thinking about SGSS and I understand that school members had experienced an extraordinary year. However, I am sure hardship could cultivate students’ grit and help them grow. The future is still full of challenges! We have to keep fighting the virus. We also need to maintain half-days, face-to-face class arrangements which means time for learning is very limited. Online teaching is expected to continue. Thus, we should cherish our learning time, pay attention in class and work hard on self-study.

Our new “Three-year plan” will commence this year. We have two Major Concern, the first one is all about students’ academic performance: “To raise the capability of students’ learning for academic pursuit”. With the aims to meet the challenges of the New Normal, we will enhance your self-directed learning with the use of Information Technology. The other major concern is “To nurture students’ positive values and attitudes for the development of the sense of citizenship”. We will work together for the betterment of students’ academic performance and whole person development.

School is our second home. We study and pursue good academic performances together. We compete with each other and it will inevitably lead to pressure. However, surely there will be happiness in the process as well. Take the recent Olympics as an example; there were two things that really impressed me. First, it was the great achievements and fighting spirit of our Hong Kong athletes. Next, it was the friendship and happiness shown among the athletes in the Games. The people around us may be our competitors, but may also be our friends. I do hope that in the coming year, there will be more smiles behind masks and more laugher in our School.

2021-22 school year is very special for SGSS as we are going to celebrate 60th Anniversary. “60 years” is not just a number, it represents 60 years of history and experience in the course of school development. Under the leadership of our former principals and the efforts of our teachers and students over these years, SGSS has been thriving. Being the current principal, it is my great honour to work here. Let’s turn a new page in our School’s history and create more and more memorable stories together.
